Kodiang: Narrow paths, steep slopes, as well as sharp and slippery rocky surfaces were no obstacle for a group of Kampung Bukit Hantu community members to fly a giant Jalur Gemilang at the peak of Bukit Hantu here.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the community members had to make the climb four times after the flagpole they were using broke due to strong winds. Kampung Bukit Hantu Community chairman Arif Fazilah Abdullah explained that the challenge did not dampen the residents' spirit to carry a flag measuring 15 feet wide and 30 feet long to the peak of the 120-metre-high hill above sea level.

Carrying the flag and its pole up was described as difficult due to the rocky, steep, and narrow route. Initially, a wooden pole was used, but it broke four times in storms. Eventually, a 10-metre-long metal pole was utilized, which several residents had to carry without any specialized equipment.

The perseverance of the residents eventually paid off when the giant Jalur Gemilang was successfully installed and flown at the peak of the hill, further instilling patriotic spirit in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. The flag was also produced through gotong-royong, with residents collaborating to sew and paint the Jalur Gemilang before carrying it to the peak.

Resident Johari Mohd Said, 65, expressed gratitude for the spirit shown by the young people in the Bukit Hantu area, who never gave up, allowing the Malaysian flag to proudly stand at the peak. Another resident, Mohd Firdaus Marzuki, 37, remarked that the effort provided a new experience for the community, as they had never before installed a flag of such a size at the peak of the hill.

The giant Jalur Gemilang now flies proudly at the peak of Bukit Hantu, symbolizing the community's perseverance, courage, and unity in fostering love for the country in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
