Gemas-Johor Bahru Double-tracking Project Proves Capability Of Local Workforce

Johor bahru: The 192-kilometre Gemas-Johor Bahru electrified double-tracking project, inaugurated today, marks a major achievement that demonstrates the ability of local engineers and workers to build world-class infrastructure.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, SIPP-YTL executive director (SIPP Rail Sdn Bhd and YTL Construction Sdn Bhd) Yeoh Keong Yuan expressed pride in being entrusted to collaborate with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) to complete this high-impact project. He stated that the project not only meets the highest safety and quality standards but also signifies a significant success for the nation’s construction industry.

Yeoh made these remarks following the Completion and Commencement Ceremony of the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double-Tracking Project, which was officiated by the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, at the Kempas Baru Station. The event was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Earlier in the day, SIPP-YTL JV managing director Datuk Seri Yeoh Seok Hong officially handed over the completed project to the Ministry of Transport, represented by Transport Minister Anthony Loke. The project plays a crucial role in Johor’s development, with the state emerging as a key growth center driven by data centers, infrastructure projects, and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

Yeoh further commented on the contractors’ role in supporting the federal government’s efforts to enhance investment inflows into Johor. The infrastructure is expected to boost investment attractiveness and reduce travel time between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru.

The Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified double-tracking project includes the construction of 11 new stations, designed to reflect Johor’s identity and heritage. These stations cover four main districts – Segamat, Kluang, Kulai, and Johor Bahru – with the final station located at JB Sentral.
