GDU Launches AI Fog-Penetrating Drone For Complex Environments

Kuala lumpur: a professional-grade drone manufacturer founded in 2015, announced the launch of the UAV-P300, which it claimed is the world's first artificial intelligence (AI)-powered optical and electronic fog-penetrating drone. Purpose-built for public safety, smart city operations, aerial surveying, and cultural tourism, the UAV-P300 delivers 50 per cent clearer visibility in rain or fog, high-performance night capture, long-range autonomy, AI-assisted navigation, and advanced payloads for complex field operations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, GDU stated that the UAV-P300 enables continued operations in low-visibility conditions through a combined optical, electronic, and AI-driven defogging system. This system is supported by an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance, allowing missions to proceed despite changing weather conditions.

For imaging, the drone features a 50-megapixel wide-angle sensor, full-colour 4K night vision, near-infrared illumination, and an advanced starlight system. These capabilities support reliable data capture across daytime, nighttime, and backlit environments. Long-range observation is enabled through 11-times continuous optical zoom and 176-times hybrid zoom, paired with a stabilised gimbal control, allowing operators to monitor infrastructure and emergency scenes from safe distances.

The UAV-P300 also incorporates an upgraded thermal imaging module enhanced by AI, supporting day-and-night detection of heat sources and anomalies. This feature is crucial for applications including search and rescue, infrastructure inspection, and heritage protection. Safe operation in dense or complex environments is supported through LIDAR-based obstacle avoidance and AI-powered recognition, while visual SLAM fusion navigation maintains stable flight in areas with weak or unavailable global navigation satellite system signals.

Equipped with a two-kilometre laser rangefinder, the UAV-P300 allows precise distance measurement and target marking, with data sharing supported via GDU's UVER platform to enhance coordination during emergency and inspection workflows. GDU announced that the UAV-P300 will be available for purchase from late January, marking a new addition to its portfolio of professional unmanned aerial solutions.
