Penang: A planned gathering concerning a temple near a hospital in Penang will not proceed following discussions between the police, organisers and the temple management.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail stated that Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Helmi Aris led the discussions. He advised the public not to attend or take part in any assembly at the location or elsewhere, warning that such actions could provoke tensions and disrupt public order.
Azizee emphasized the significance of maintaining peace in the area, noting that the hospital serves as an important healthcare facility for the local community. Therefore, any activity that could disrupt peace should be avoided.
He assured the public that police will continue to monitor the situation, particularly in the Bukit Mertajam area, to ensure it remains peaceful and under control. Additionally, Azizee advised the public to comply with regulations and police traffic instructions during a religious procession involving the temple scheduled for tomorrow, and to safeguard public property.
"The public is also reminded not to make any provocative statements that could trigger racial tension," he said, adding that police will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found violating the law.
