FTTH Project For Military Housing Set For Completion By Early 2026, Says Fahmi

Kuala lumpur: The Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) project for Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) across Malaysia is on track to be completed by the first quarter of 2026, as stated by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Implementation efforts are currently in progress, which include the installation of fibre optic cables and monopoles around military camps, with developments proceeding smoothly and satisfactorily.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the project at the Fifth Infantry Division Headquarters in Lok Kawi Camp, involving 500 housing units, is anticipated to be finalized before the year’s end. Once completed, the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel residing in these units will benefit from faster and more cost-effective Internet connectivity. Fahmi shared these updates with reporters following his inspection of the FTTH project for RKAT and the Point of Presence (PoP) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Lok Kawi, located at the Fifth Infantry Division Headquarters, Lok Kawi Camp.

During the inspection, Fahmi was accompanied by Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa. The expansive FTTH project, which extends to 73 military camps nationwide and encompasses over 59,000 RKAT units, is a collaborative effort between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and ATM, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on October 11, 2024.

Fahmi elaborated that under this program, ATM personnel have the opportunity to subscribe to the Perajurit Broadband package, which offers speeds of 100 Mbps at a rate of RM49 per month. Additionally, there is a promotional rate of RM39 per month for the initial six months. Regarding the PoP project, Fahmi noted its implementation in 600 schools across Sabah, achieving a commendable progress rate of 85 percent. Despite the challenges presented by the installation in island schools, the ministry remains confident that the remaining 15 percent will be completed by the end of the next year.

Fahmi also emphasized the importance of implementing the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) in all schools and military camps involved in the project upon completion of the facilities. The campaign is designed to enhance digital literacy and awareness, addressing issues such as cyberbullying, online scams, digital gambling, and child sexual abuse material (CSAM). By targeting various societal segments and employing multiple educational modules, KIS seeks to promote safe and responsible Internet usage.
