Teluk Intan: The lorry driver charged with dangerous driving that resulted in the deaths of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel has been released after posting bail. Hilir Perak district police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin confirmed that the RM6,000 bail was paid by the driver’s employer.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, ACP Dr Bakri explained that the driver was granted court bail, with the employer providing the RM6,000 bail amount in one surety. He noted that the driver would be released from the Hilir Perak district police headquarters lock-up following the payment. It was revealed that the funds for the bail were raised collectively by the driver’s employer and a friend.
Last Friday, the Teluk Intan Magistrate’s Court set the bail at RM6,000 for Rudi Zulkarnain Mat Radi, 45, after he entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of causing the deaths of the FRU personnel in the Teluk Intan crash. The charge falls under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which stipulates a maximum jail term of 10 years, a fine of up to RM50,000, and disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving license for not less than five years, upon conviction.
