Melaka: The average price of fresh coconut milk in Melaka is currently between RM15 and RM17 per kilogramme, which is below the government-set ceiling price of RM17.50 per kilogramme.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Melaka Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Dr Mohd Hazimin Jamaludin noted that engagement sessions with fresh coconut milk sellers revealed that the product can be sold at a lower price due to an adequate supply of coconuts. This is in addition to the government’s established ceiling price. Dr Mohd Hazimin assured that there will be no price increase for fresh coconut milk after Hari Raya Aidilfitri, emphasizing that it remains readily available at a fair price. He encouraged the public to report any traders selling above the maximum price to the ministry for further action.
Dr Mohd Hazimin made these remarks during a post-Aidilfitri inspection by Melaka KPDN at the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) Central Market in Bachang. The inspection was also attended by the chief enforcement officer, Rohaimin Mohammed Zawawi. He reported that no complaints have been received about fresh coconut milk being sold above the ceiling price, even during the period leading up to Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
In an associated development, Dr Mohd Hazimin mentioned that 25 price-related complaints were lodged during the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025, which was in effect from March 24 to April 7. Seven cases of non-compliance, involving the absence of pink special price tags, were identified during this year’s SHMMP. He added that Melaka KPDN conducted 188 inspections across business premises during this period, compared to 152 inspections during the 2024 SHMMP for the same celebration.
