French Open: Tang Jie-Ee Wei, Soon Huat-Shevon Advance Amidst Fierce Competition

Cesson-sevigne: Newly-crowned mixed doubles world champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and professional duo Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie fought hard from behind before booking a spot in the second round of the French Open 2025 in Cesson-Sevigne, today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, after dropping the first set, Tang Jie-Ee Wei rallied strongly to see off Yang Po-Hsuan-Hu Ling Fang from Taiwan, 16-21, 21-16, 21-12, during the opening round of the Super 750 tournament held in Glaz Arena. The fourth seeds will take on another Taiwanese pair, Ye Hong Wei-Nicole Gonzales Chan, who got past Ruben Garcia-Lucia Rodriguez of Spain, 21-9, 21-16.

Similarly, eighth-seeded Soon Huat-Shevon overcame a slow start by taking 59 minutes to edge out the unseeded Indonesian pair Amri Syahwani-Nita Violina Marwah, 15-21, 21-17, 21-17. Awaiting the husband and wife pair tomorrow are the Scottish duo Alexander Dunn-Julie Macpherson, who also came from behind to eliminate Lee Jongmin-Chae Yu Jung of South Korea, 14-21, 21-12, 21-16.

In the meantime, the national men’s doubles pair Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King kicked off their campaign with a straight-sets win over Eloi Adam-Leo Rossi of France, 21-19, 21-17.
