France’s Saint-Gobain To Invest RM200 Million To Build Manufacturing Facilities In Perak

Perak: Saint-Gobain Group’s Malaysian subsidiary, Saint-Gobain Prima Sdn Bhd, is set to invest over RM200 million from 2025 to 2029 to establish manufacturing facilities at the Kanthan Industrial Park in Chemor, Perak. This move underscores the company’s focus on light and sustainable construction.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the French construction materials leader stated that the expansion will notably increase production capacity for premium fibre cement board solutions, including PRIMA Flex, PRIMA Plank, PRIMA Liner, and PRIMA Lattice.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad emphasized that the state is rich in raw materials and mineral resources. He remarked that Saint-Gobain’s investment exemplifies how Perak can enhance these resources for high-value economic activities rather than exporting them without added value. He noted that manufacturing building materials from locally sourced materials not only boosts Perak’s economic value chain but also creates quality employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) CEO Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid highlighted that Saint-Gobain’s expansion serves as a significant catalyst for Malaysia’s industrial progress. He stated that with its sustainable technology, the facility sets a new standard for high-value manufacturing. He added that MIDA is proud to facilitate this initiative, reinforcing Malaysia’s status as a leader in advanced construction materials manufacturing in the ASEAN region.

Saint-Gobain Malaysia and Singapore CEO Lynette Siow commented that by expanding in Perak, the company is reinforcing its commitment to local industrial development and advancing its mission to provide sustainable building solutions. She stated their belief in making the world a better home through responsible and innovative collaborations.

The expansion announcement was made alongside a memorandum of understanding between Saint-Gobain Prima Sdn Bhd and Perak Investment Management Centre (InvestPerak) to enhance collaboration for the project’s execution. The signing ceremony took place at the Saint-Gobain Tower in Paris, attended by Saarani, InvestPerak CEO Mohamad Hashim Abdul Ghani, Saint-Gobain vice-president corporate strategy Noemie Chocat, vice president marketing and development Christian Bako, and other government representatives.

This investment builds on Saint-Gobain’s two-decade presence in Malaysia, further solidified by its 2023 acquisition of Hume Cemboard Industries Sdn Bhd, now operating as Saint-Gobain Prima. This aligns with the Group’s global mission of “Making the World a Better Home” and its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050.
