Kuala lumpur: Less than two months after the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report into the management and operations of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) was made public, its findings have led to a series of investigations and legal action against individuals identified in the report. As of today, four individuals have been charged in court, while several others, including former senior TH management personnel and a former minister, have been detained and remanded to assist investigations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, those who have been charged include TH chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, former THP Bina Sdn Bhd Safety and Health manager Nasahruddin Ahmad, and former TH Properties Sdn Bhd deputy general manager Tengku Kamarolhisham Tengku Kamaruddin, who was also a former deputy general manager of THP Bina Sdn Bhd. Alam Maritim Resources Bhd group managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azmi Ahmad was brought before the court today.
The chronology of the TH RCI began on July 22, 2026, when Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan announced that a decision regarding the proposal to make the TH RCI report public would be discussed at a Cabinet meeting. Subsequently, on July 23, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim indicated the government's readiness to disclose the RCI report findings related to the sale of the agency's strategic assets.
By July 29, 2026, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) had published the RCI report, and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized accountability for any losses TH incurred. Following this, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) formed a special team to scrutinize the report, with the Attorney General's Chambers taking immediate action.
Investigations escalated from July 31, when MACC began its probe, deploying eight officers to the TH building. The police opened investigation papers after receiving multiple reports concerning commercial crime cases tied to the TH RCI findings. By August 5, MACC had recorded statements from a former company CFO, while the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) launched its investigations into identified individuals.
Further developments saw the Dewan Rakyat debate the RCI report on August 11, followed by Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil's commitment to a full investigation. MACC's operations led to the detention of several individuals, including a former TH CEO and a former minister, to assist the ongoing investigations. By September, key figures like Nasahruddin and Tengku Kamarolhisham faced charges related to criminal breach of trust.
The legal actions extended when Abdul Azeez was charged with using his position for personal gain, and Azmi faced charges involving vessel rental rates. MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman announced impending charges against a former minister, highlighting the sustained efforts to address the issues revealed by the RCI report.
