Former Terentang Assemblyman Tan Sri Mohd Yazid Baba Dies At 92

Kuala lumpur: Former Terentang state assemblyman Tan Sri Mohd Yazid Baba passed away at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMCC) here at 4.36 am today. He was 92.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, news of the passing of the Negeri Sembilan political figure was announced by his daughter Datuk Mastura, who is also a former deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Office (Special Functions), through a Facebook post.

Mastura, who is also the former Kuala Kangsar Member of Parliament, said his body was taken to Masjid Saidina Umar al-Khattab in Bukit Damansara for funeral prayers after the Zohor prayers before being laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery. 'May Allah SWT forgive all his sins, accept all his good deeds, illuminate his resting place with the light of His mercy, and grant him a place in paradise,' she said.

Mohd Yazid served as the state assemblyman for Terentang, now known as the Chembong state constituency, for three terms after winning the seat in the 1974, 1978 and 1982 General Elections. He also served as a member of the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council.

Apart from being active in politics, he had a background in the police service and the legal profession, having also held the positions of president of the Retired Senior Police Officers Association of Malaysia (RESPA) and deputy president of the Malaysian Former Elected Representatives Council (Mubarak).

Mohd Yazid was also the eldest brother of the late Tan Sri Rashdan Baba, the first Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM). He leaves behind his wife, Puan Sri Zainun Yusuff, five children, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
