Former Radio Announcer Mariamah Tijo Laid To Rest in USJ 22 Muslim Cemetery

Kuala lumpur: Former radio announcer with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Mariamah Tijo, was laid to rest at the USJ 22 Muslim Cemetery today. The van carrying her remains arrived at the cemetery at 12.30 pm, attended by family and friends who gathered to pay their last respects.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the final rites took place at Masjid Darul Ehsan SS15 after her remains arrived from University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) at 10.15 am. Her passing marks the end of an era for those who knew her, both personally and professionally.

Datuk Chuari Selamat, the former manager of Radio Klasik Nasional, shared his memories of Mariamah, whom he had known since 1973. He highlighted her creativity and skill in writing drama scripts and poetry. Chuari reminisced about their travels to Jakarta in the early 1980s for the Salam Muhibah pantun exchange programme.

Film director Aziz M. Osman, who formed a close bond with Mariamah in the mid-1970s, expressed his deep affection for her, likening her to a mother figure. He maintained a close relationship with her children and had the opportunity to visit her a few months ago during her illness.

Azan Addin, a member of the popular music group Ruffedge, remembered Mariamah for her friendliness and her passion for poetry, performing sketches, and singing.

Mariamah, aged 76, passed away this morning at 5 am, surrounded by her family at PPUM after being admitted on Tuesday night. She had been bedridden for four years following a stroke and had received Tabung Kasih@HAWANA aid on March 20, 2024.
