Mentakab: A former childcare assistant was charged at the Sessions Court here today with abusing a two-year-old boy at a childcare centre in Mentakab last month.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nor Ain Ashikin Husin, 26, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out before Judge Jamaludin Mat. She allegedly abused the child in a manner that could have caused emotional injury at a childcare centre in Taman Keramat Indah, Mentakab, at about 9.45am on August 11.
She was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. This section carries a maximum penalty of a RM50,000 fine or up to 20 years of imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.
The prosecution offered bail of RM10,000 with one surety. However, the defence requested a lower amount, arguing that the accused was unemployed and the surety could only afford RM5,000.
Judge Jamaludin agreed to the defence's request and set bail at RM5,000 with one surety. He also scheduled the next mention of the case for October 14. Furthermore, Nor Ain Ashikin Husin was prohibited from interfering with the victim or any prosecution witnesses until the case is resolved.
Previously, police confirmed receiving a report regarding the alleged assault after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
