Kuala Lumpur:The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to enhance its strategic collaboration with the Malaysian National News Agency, Bernama, to expand international news coverage and improve its officers' digital media skills.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Nur Izzah Wong Mee Choo, the Undersecretary of the Communications and Public Diplomacy Division, visited Wisma Bernama with the aim of strengthening ties between the two organizations. She highlighted Bernama's significant role in disseminating news related to the ministry, including international affairs and activities of Malaysian missions abroad.
Nur Izzah expressed her intention to enhance existing collaborations with Bernama on international news coverage and relations, as well as activities involving Malaysian embassies abroad. She proposed professional training for the ministry's officers, leveraging Bernama's expertise to improve digital media coverage, which would help make their media platform more professional and engaging.
The ministry also intends to use Bernama's extensive reach to share important research and increase public awareness on critical safety issues. Nur Izzah mentioned that projects at the ministry level, including research by the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism, should be shared with the public to educate them on threats such as those related to e-gaming. She emphasized the potential for collaboration with Bernama to promote research articles and in-house podcasts to a broader audience.
During the visit, Nur Izzah and her delegation were received by Bernama's editorial team, including editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj. They were briefed on the news agency's operations and visited several departments, including the Editorial Department, BERNAMA TV, and the Digital Media Division. Senior officials from the ministry, including Tina Rohayu Hamdan, Al Izaini Izhar, and Wan Nur Afiqah Wan Zaihan, were also present.
