Sungai Buloh:A food delivery rider appeared in the Magistrate's Court today, pleading not guilty to charges of careless riding after a video showing him knocking down a student at a pedestrian crossing went viral. Muhammad Haziq Izzuddin Ruslan, 25, was accused of riding a Yamaha motorcycle without due care and attention, leading to an accident with a pedestrian on September 28 at Persiaran Saujana 4, Sungai Buloh District.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the charge against Ruslan falls under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. This section stipulates penalties that include a fine ranging from RM5,000 to RM10,000 and a possible imprisonment term of up to 12 months if convicted.
During the court proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Alia Anisa Khairus Masnan recommended bail be set at RM5,000 with one surety. However, Ruslan's lawyer, Muhamad Saifullah Muhamad Azmi, requested a lower bail amount, citing his client's lack of fixed income and responsibility for supporting his unemployed parents.
The court decided to grant bail at RM2,000 with one surety and imposed an additional condition requiring Ruslan to report to a police station monthly. The case is scheduled for mention on November 12.
The incident gained widespread attention after a 60-second video was circulated online, showing the student being hit by the motorcyclist at a pedestrian crossing, causing both the student and the rider to fall to the ground.
