FM Global Logistics Unit Partners With Three Companies To Deepen ESG Commitment

Kuala Lumpur: FM Global Logistics Holdings Bhd, through its wholly-owned unit FM Global Logistics Sdn Bhd, has partnered with Scania Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Solarvest Energy Sdn Bhd, and JAC Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd to enhance its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) agenda.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, FM Global announced that as part of this collaboration, the company has invested in 20 Scania Super trucks, equipped with fuel-efficient Euro 5 engines, from Scania Malaysia at an estimated cost of RM11 million. Additionally, FM Global is commissioning Solarvest to install solar systems at its warehouses for approximately RM1.5 million and has acquired two JAC i75 electric trucks from JAC Motors for RM557,000.

FM Global’s managing director, Chew Chong Keat, emphasized at the partnership event that these collaborations are pivotal in advancing the company’s greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets. He noted that the investments in green technology would aid compliance with upcoming regulatory standards. The acquisition of Scania Super trucks is expected to cut fuel consumption by up to eight per cent per vehicle and reduce GHG emissions by approximately 719 metric tonnes (MT) annually.

Chew highlighted that the purchase of JAC Motors’ electric trucks signifies the beginning of the company’s transition to zero-emission vehicles, aiming to cut around six MT of GHG emissions annually. Furthermore, FM Global plans to deepen its ESG commitment by implementing a rooftop solar system at its new warehouses in Port Klang, Selangor, potentially reducing 806 MT of GHG emissions each year.

In the long term, FM Global aims for a 45 per cent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, aligning with the Paris Climate Agreement and Malaysia’s Nationally Determined Contributions Action Plan. Chew expressed confidence in achieving this goal, emphasizing the company’s focus on sustainability.
