Kuala lumpur: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has attributed the increasing number of evacuees in Selangor to floodwaters moving southwards from northern areas into Kuala Langat and Sepang.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin reported that 4,463 individuals are currently sheltered in 33 temporary relief centres across Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Kuala Langat, and Sepang. To facilitate water drainage into the rivers, the Selangor Department of Irrigation and Drainage has deployed four pumps in Kuala Selangor, with plans to send six additional pumps to enhance the drainage process.
Amirudin also announced the mobilization of 5,000 volunteers to aid in recovery efforts. These volunteers are expected to assist residents in cleaning their homes once they return from the relief centres.
In another development, Amirudin mentioned that the state government is in contact with the family of a police officer who went missing after being swept away by strong currents. The officer is presumed to have drowned while attempting to escape from a skidded vehicle in a flooded area near Klinik Desa Giching, Sepang.
Additionally, Amirudin expressed gratitude to all participating agencies for their continuous efforts over the past week. He acknowledged contributions from the State Disaster Management Unit, Selangor Water Management Authority, Social Welfare Department, and other key organizations led by Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin.
