JOHOR: The flood situation in Kelantan and Terengganu shows signs of improvement as the number of evacuees at relief centers decreases, while Johor faces renewed flooding following heavy rainfall this afternoon.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, in Kelantan, the number of evacuees has reduced to 623 people, with 621 sheltered in nine centers in Tanah Merah and two in another center in Kuala Krai, as of 4 p.m. This marks a significant decrease from 883 evacuees earlier in the day. However, the water level in Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang has surpassed the danger level of 9.0 meters.

In Terengganu, the Besut district reports a reduction in evacuees, dropping to 238 individuals from 651 earlier in the morning. Although the situation has improved, water levels at Sungai Telemong in Kuala Ping, Hulu Terengganu, and Sungai Nerus in Kampung Bukit, Setiu remain above warning thresholds, indicating a continued need for vigilance.

Meanwhile, in Johor, the heavy rains have led to the evacuation of 12 residents from Kampung Baru Sungai Mas in the Kota Tinggi district. These individuals have been relocated to a relief center at Dewan Kampung Baru Sungai Mas. State disaster management committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani reported that the water level of Sungai Ulu Pontian Besar in Kampung Melayu Bukit Batu, Kulai remains at alert level, with a reading of 11.49 meters.

Rohani noted varying weather conditions across the state, with rain reported in the districts of Mersing, Kluang, and Tangkak. In contrast, Muar, Segamat, Kota Tinggi, and Kulai experienced cloudy weather, while Johor Bahru, Pontian, and Batu Pahat enjoyed sunny conditions.
