Kamunting: A temporary relief centre was opened at Dewan Changkat Larah, Kamunting, in the Larut, Matang and Selama district tonight following flash floods in Changkat Larah. Larut, Matang and Selama District Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohd Nasrul Menhat said the relief centre was opened at 8.30 pm.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Nasrul Menhat requested the coordination, assistance, and cooperation of all departments and agencies regarding this matter. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in managing the situation effectively.

In a separate statement, the Larut, Matang and Selama District Civil Defence Force (APM) Operational Control Centre (PKOD) reported that flooded or inaccessible areas include the main roads of Taman Larah Damai and Taman Lela. These areas have been significantly affected, causing disruptions to local residents.

The total number of evacuees has yet to be ascertained. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected residents. Efforts are underway to provide necessary assistance and support to those in need.

According to the PKOD, river levels remain high following continuous heavy rainfall since this afternoon, whilst current weather conditions indicate light rain. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as necessary to keep the public informed.
