Flood Victims in Perak See Reduction as Relief Centres Close

Perak: The number of flood victims in Perak has decreased to 221 individuals from 67 families as of 8 pm today, leading to the closure of two temporary relief centres earlier in the day.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Secretariat announced that the two centres in the district of Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS), located at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Ibol and Dewan Perdana Trong, were closed at 2 pm. LMS district SDMC chairman, Mohd Nasrul Menhat, confirmed that the closure followed the full recession of floodwaters in the affected areas, allowing residents to return to their homes.

Currently, 101 individuals from 28 families remain at the SK Matang Gelugor relief centre, and 69 individuals from 23 families are still housed at the Dewan Terbuka Masjid Al-Wusta centre within the same district. In Kampar, 51 people from 16 families continue to seek shelter at the Gopeng Municipal Hall centre since June 20, after a bridge collapse in Kampung Ulu Geruntum, Kuala Razila, left their homes isolated.

Meanwhile, the Perak Drainage and Irrigation Department has reported that the water level at Sungai Slim stands at an alert level of 24.9 metres, compared to its normal level of 23.5 metres.
