KUALA LUMPUR: The floods in several Malaysian states have intensified, with Pahang being the latest to experience the brunt of the disaster.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the number of flood evacuees housed in temporary relief centres (PPS) across the nation has risen to 152,377 this morning, up from 146,611 last night. However, the figures in Negeri Sembilan and Selangor have seen a slight decrease as of 8 am today.
In Kelantan, the flood situation remains dire, with 96,743 evacuees in 284 PPS, an increase from 93,158 last night. The Welfare Department’s (JKM) Disaster Info Portal reports that Pasir Mas continues to have the highest number of evacuees at 29,370, followed by Tumpat, Kota Bharu, Pasir Puteh, and Kuala Krai.
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s portal indicates that five major rivers remain above danger levels, though they show a decreasing trend. These include Sungai Kelantan at Kusial Baru and Sungai Golok at Rantau Panjang.
In Terengganu, the number of evacuees has surged to 4
3,281 this morning. The State Disaster Management Committee highlights Besut as the district with the highest number of evacuees, followed by other affected areas including Hulu Terengganu and Dungun.
Meanwhile, in Kedah, evacuee numbers have risen to 8,754 across 53 PPS. Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain of the Kedah Civil Defence Force reports that Kota Setar has the highest number of evacuees, followed by Kubang Pasu and other districts.
In Johor, flood evacuees have increased to 592 individuals this morning. State Disaster Management Committee chairman, Tan Sri Dr. Azmi Rohani, notes that Tangkak and Segamat are the most affected districts.
Pahang has recently been hit by floods, with 15 PPS opened in the Raub district to accommodate 452 evacuees. The Raub District Disaster Management Committee Secretariat attributes the flooding to flash floods at Sungai Dong and Sungai Gali.
Melaka also reports an increase in evacuees to 302 people, with the Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah, and Jasin districts being t
he most affected. Perlis has seen a slight rise in evacuees, with the SK Arau PPS housing 83 individuals.
In Negeri Sembilan, the number of evacuees has decreased, with Tampin, Jempol, and Kuala Pilah reporting fewer people in relief centres. Similarly, in Selangor, the flood situation in Meru, Klang has improved, with a drop in evacuee numbers at the SK Sungai Binjai PPS.
