Kampung Melayu Subang:A sudden surge of floodwaters forced residents to flee their homes during flash floods in Kampung Melayu Subang. A 46-year-old man, Zulkarnain Hashim, had to carry his elderly parents to safety as the waters rose rapidly, reaching waist level by late afternoon.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zulkarnain described the chaos as he moved his 90-year-old mother and 89-year-old father to higher ground when the flood hit. The flooding, which occurred after heavy rain from 2 pm to 4 pm, is not an isolated incident for the area, which has experienced recurrent flooding since 1995.
In another distressing episode, Nur Atilia Elina Rosli, a young mother, had to evacuate her two children, including a four-month-old baby, as water began entering her home. With her husband away, she quickly moved her children to safety through knee-deep water. She recounted the ordeal at a temporary relief centre, noting that the floodwaters reached chest level, marking it as the worst flood they have faced.
Zulkarnain also highlighted a failure in the local flood warning system, as the neighborhood siren did not sound during the incident. Meanwhile, three individuals, including a disabled elderly man and an infant, were among those evacuated to the relief centre due to the flooding.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations, Ashrul Riezal Asbar, reported receiving an emergency call at 5.18 pm, with a fire engine arriving at the scene by 5.33 pm. The flash flood impacted 92 houses across four roads, including Lorong Merbau, Jalan Cengal, Jalan Resak, and Jalan Jati.
