Johor Bahru: Five retailers in Johor were issued compounds for failing to display price tags for controlled items on the first day of the Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) chief enforcement officer Mohd Fuzi Hadi Abd Latif stated that the five retailers were fined a total of RM500. This action aims to remind retailers, wholesalers, and traders to comply with the law, as even minor violations can cause doubt among consumers.
Out of 55 retailers inspected in Johor, two traders in Segamat and Kota Tinggi, and one in Johor Bahru, failed to display the required pink price tags as stipulated in the SHMMP. Johor became the first state to record such an offence following the enforcement of the SHMMP for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025, which began yesterday and will continue until April 7.
Meanwhile, Mohd Fuzi Hadi Abd Latif mentioned that there are 23 types of goods with controlled prices under this scheme in Johor, compared to a total of 26 types of goods, excluding imported beef, ‘ikan tongkol,’ and ‘ikan demudak.’ During the SHMMP Chinese New Year 2025, his team conducted 307 inspections involving wholesalers and retailers, resulting in 123 cases with a compound value of RM13,300 for various offences under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011. Failure to display a pink price tag on controlled price items was noted as the most frequent offence.
