Chukai: Five houses sustained roof damage during a sudden windstorm in Taman Rakyat Bistari Phase 1 here today. Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) chairman for Low-Cost Public Housing 2, Mohd Khidzer Mohd Nor, said the storm alarmed residents as it occurred unexpectedly during clear weather at around 2 pm.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Khidzer reported that five houses suffered roof damage after sections of their roofs were blown away by strong winds. He noted that windstorms are common in the area, with several homes having been damaged by similar storms in the past. Fortunately, the incident did not result in any damage to household belongings, as there was no rain at the time.
One affected resident, Muhammad Faiz Afizi Adnan, 24, recounted being startled by the sound of roof sheets being blown off while he was eating in the kitchen. He rushed out of the house, fearing the situation might worsen, and later discovered that 10 roof sheets had been blown away by the wind.
Another resident, Afifi Marwan Noor Zelinayadi, 32, initially thought a group of monkeys was running on the roof, but later realised that the roof of his house had been lifted by the storm. He did not expect a storm because the weather was clear at the time.
