Melaka: The Malaysian Malay Football Association (PBMM) is planning to organise the inaugural edition of the Nusantara Cup at the end of this year in Melaka. Its president, Mohd Firdaus Mohamed, announced that the tournament is expected to involve five countries-Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, and Thailand.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Firdaus stated, “We will organise the Nusantara Cup after the conclusion of the 103rd edition of the Piala Emas Raja-Raja (PERR) tournament, where we will form a team to represent the country for the Nusantara Cup.” He further mentioned that players participating in the 2025 PERR will be evaluated for potential inclusion in the national squad for the Nusantara Cup.
Mohd Firdaus shared these details during the launch ceremony of the PERR 2025 season. The event took place in the capital and was officiated by Melaka Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam. The PERR 2025 will feature 15 teams, with matches scheduled to occur between October and November.
For historical context, the ACeiO MACC team emerged as champions of the PERR 2024, securing victory against the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) team with a 2-1 scoreline in the final.
