Sungai paka: A fisherman died after the boat he was in collided with a fibreglass boat near Sungai Paka here this morning. The victim, Mohd Rasid Jusoh, 58, died while receiving treatment at Klinik Kesihatan Paka here.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victim’s friend, Rosli Md Lazim, 54, stated that the incident occurred at about 6 am. The boat, helmed by another friend, collided with the victim’s boat in dark sea conditions while turning back to pick up items left at the jetty.
Rosli mentioned that he realized the victim’s boat had capsized after spotting a large floating object about 600 metres from the jetty. “When I reached a location, I saw a large object about half a kilometre from the jetty. After approaching and shining a light on it, I found Mohd Rasid clinging to the overturned boat. he was in a very weak condition,” he said when contacted today.
Rosli immediately took the victim back to the jetty and sent him to the Klinik Kesihatan Paka by car. However, the victim was confirmed dead on arrival by the medical officer on duty. Meanwhile, Dungun district police chief Supt Maizura Abdul Kadir confirmed the incident and said Mohd Rasid’s body was sent to the Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah’s (HSNS) forensic department for further action.
