Fiqh Autism Module Under Development for Special Needs Children

Bandar baru selayang: The government is in the process of drafting a specialized module, 'Fiqh Autisme,' to provide children with autism access to religious education and a better understanding of worship. This initiative is spearheaded by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hassan and is part of the broader Muslim Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Action Plan.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr. Zulkifli emphasized the importance of Fiqh Autism as an inclusive approach that aligns with the needs and abilities of autistic children, allowing them to gain religious knowledge and appreciation. This effort also aims to foster community awareness regarding the specific needs of these children in performing religious duties, particularly those involving fardhu ain (religious obligation) and fardhu kifayah (collective obligation).

Dr. Zulkifli further mentioned that the development of PWD-Friendly Guidelines for mosques and suraus is in its final stages. These guidelines are being prepared in collaboration with the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), the Islamic Propagation Foundation (YADIM), the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), and the Mufti Department. He underscored the serious attention given by the Prime Minister's Department of Religious Affairs to the needs of autistic children.

During his visit to the Yayasan Pendidikan Insani, Dr. Zulkifli interacted with around 30 autistic students and discussed various support aspects with the management. These discussions included strengthening endowment elements and capacity building to enhance the skills and knowledge of the children involved.
