Findings of Fatal Melaka Crash Inconclusive Due to Missing Lorry Tyre, Says Puspakom

SHAH ALAM: Puspakom has submitted an incomplete report to the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) regarding the recent fatal accident in Melaka, as the dislodged lorry tyre pivotal to the investigation remains missing.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Puspakom Chief Executive Officer Mahmood Razak Bahman stated that the inspection covered only the vehicles involved in the crash, as the tyre that had become detached from the lorry was untraceable. This missing component has left the inspection and investigation submitted to MIROS unfinished, despite the report being sent to authorities.

“The inspection and investigation that we conducted for MIROS is incomplete even though the report was sent to the authorities today,” Mahmood Razak Bahman said at a press conference held at Puspakom Shah Alam. “This is because we could not find the tyre that was dislodged. So, Puspakom was unable to inspect the (condition of the) tyre, which should have been sent with the vehicles.”

The accident, which occurred at KM204 of the North-South Highway in Ayer Keroh on December 23, involved a tour bus, two lorries, a car, and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). It resulted in the deaths of seven individuals and injuries to 33 others. In response to the crash, Transport Minister Anthony Loke has directed the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to investigate the cause and take necessary actions against the companies operating the involved trailer and bus.
