Kuala Lumpur:The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) is urging local producers to leverage the Creative Content Fund (DKK) to create works that can penetrate international markets, aiming to generate long-term revenue and reduce dependency on government funding.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Dr. Hans Isaac, chairman of FINAS, emphasized the importance of expanding into overseas markets after years of focusing on domestic content. Speaking at the Creative Industry Symposium during the 35th Malaysia Film Festival, he highlighted the need for producers to utilize the fund to develop content beyond Malaysia.
FINAS aims to assist companies in generating revenue over five to six years, thereby strengthening their financial position and ensuring sustainable growth within the creative industry. Dr. Hans Isaac expressed a desire for numerous financially healthy companies rather than just a few, to create a robust and progressive ecosystem.
New producers with the potential to create quality content are encouraged to apply for the DKK, following the stipulated procedures. The symposium also served as a platform to gather feedback from industry players on improving the management of the DKK, including the evaluation process and feedback provision to unsuccessful applicants.
Dr. Hans Isaac noted that understanding the weaknesses in applications could help producers better prepare for future submissions. Engagement sessions with stakeholders are deemed necessary as the DKK is a public fund intended for the industry, emphasizing its role as a resource for industry growth.
Feedback from the symposium will be reviewed alongside internal recommendations from the fund board, management, and FINAS's chief executive officer. These insights will be used to propose improvements to the Communications Ministry for further action.
