Kuala lumpur: The National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) is committed to boosting the presence of local talents and works at the international level through various strategic initiatives, including support funds, participation in world film festivals, and cross-government agency collaboration. FINAS chairman Datuk Hans Isaac emphasized the importance of supporting local actors in international markets to catalyze the development of the country’s creative industry.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Hans Isaac stated that FINAS is proud of the achievements of local production companies and individual talents who have successfully entered the international market. This success highlights the acceptance and competitiveness of Malaysia’s creative industry on a global scale. FINAS offers several initiatives, such as the Creative Content Fund (DKK), Film In Malaysia Incentive (FIMI), human capital development funds, and international market participation funds to support high-potential works.
Hans also mentioned that FINAS facilitates international collaboration through participation in major world film festivals like Cannes, Berlinale, and Busan. Additionally, collaborations with agencies such as the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), embassies, and foreign agencies aim to assist local industry players. The long-term goal is to produce more international figures like Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh and Henry Golding, alongside skilled behind-the-scenes professionals.
Currently, young actor Irfan Zaini is gaining international attention by starring in an Indian film alongside the famous star Vijay. Irfan sees such cross-country collaborations as valuable experiences that elevate Malaysia’s presence in the global film industry. Hans Isaac praised Irfan’s success as a significant achievement for the industry, showcasing the potential of local talents when given adequate opportunities and support. He expressed hope that Irfan would continue to bring glory to Malaysia’s creative industry and serve as an inspiration for other industry players.
