Finas Act 1981 Needs Amendment To Reflect Industry Changes – Fahmi

Kuala Lumpur: It is appropriate for the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) Act 1981 to be amended following significant changes in the country’s film industry, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Fahmi highlighted the necessity for these amendments as the industry faces challenges from rapid technological advancements, with live streaming becoming increasingly popular.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi stated, “Major changes are taking place, including the rise of live streaming, so I believe it is appropriate to work on amendments to the FINAS Act to reflect these developments.” Fahmi made these remarks after attending the “Raya Sama-Sama” event to celebrate arts and media practitioners. The event was attended by Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Economic News Services) Azlina Aziz, and Head of Management Services and Finance Sharifah Zaini Syed Zain.

Additionally, Fahmi mentioned plans to meet with the Malaysian Veteran Artistes Welfare Association to review 10 matters raised by the group, including performance opportunities in Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) productions and access to medical treatment.

Earlier in the day, Fahmi presented cash donations, festive clothing, and shopping vouchers to 50 local arts practitioners and 26 media professionals in conjunction with Ramadan and the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. The ceremony was organised by the Communications Ministry in collaboration with Bernama and FINAS.
