Kuala Lumpur:The final list of sports events for the 2027 SEA Games in Malaysia is anticipated to be confirmed by the end of this month.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub, the Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysia SEA Games Organising Committee (MASOC) and ASEAN Para Games 2027, announced that approximately 492 events across 43 sports are planned for the biennial Games. However, the exact number has yet to be finalized.

Preparation efforts are focused on completing the technical handbooks for each sport, which is a prerequisite for finalizing the number of events to be contested at the 34th edition of the Games. Abdul Rashid expressed hope that these handbooks would be completed within the next two or three weeks, allowing the finalization of the event list by the end of October or early November.

He also mentioned that the total athlete participation is estimated to range between 7,000 and 8,000, based on the previously approved 43 sports. A more precise count will be available once the participating countries submit their athletes' entries through the designated registration system.

In terms of accommodation, the organisers have decided to house athletes and officials in three-star hotels and above, rather than using a traditional sports village. Abdul Rashid emphasized the prioritization of hotels near competition venues to facilitate transportation.

The 2027 SEA Games, set to occur from September 18 to 29, will be hosted across four main clusters Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang, and Johor.
