Kuala Lumpur: Fiji has expressed interest in Malaysia’s development model, particularly the Majlis Amanah Rakyat’s (MARA) approach to empowering the economic and education sectors. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed this during a telephone conversation with his Fiji counterpart, Sitiveni Rabuka, focusing on efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar shared that he is open to sharing Malaysia’s experiences and expertise in these fields. He also highlighted Malaysia’s willingness to welcome Fijian students into programmes involving Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and information technology.
During their discussion, Anwar invited Rabuka to engage in capacity-building training programmes under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), emphasizing the initiative’s potential benefits for human resource development through training and the exchange of expertise.
Anwar expressed appreciation for the reopening of the Fiji High Commission in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year, a move which signifies Fiji’s commitment to enhancing diplomatic relations with Malaysia. To further bilateral relations, Anwar extended an invitation to Rabuka for an official visit to Malaysia, believing that such high-level visits will foster stronger ties and open doors for strategic collaborations.
