Putrajaya: The Festival Turath Islami Selangor (FTIS) is set to transition to a national event, becoming the Festival Turath Islami Malaysia (FTIM) 2026. This expanded version will take place over eight days, starting on September 13, with the majority of events hosted at the Putra Mosque in Putrajaya. The festival aims to uphold Islamic heritage as a foundation for human development and the creation of a knowledgeable society.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that FTIM 2026 will serve as a continuation of the previous FTIS editions. This year's festival is a collaborative effort between the Selangor State Government and the Federal Government through the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs). The event will feature the theme 'Hikmah Warisan Islam', focusing on Al-Hikam al-Ata'iyyah, a significant work by Islamic scholar and Sufi figure Ibn Ata-illah As-Sakandari.
The classical Sufi text, Al-Hikam al-Ata'iyyah, is known for its insights into sincerity, trust, and the relationship between a servant and God. It has become one of the most influential works of Sufism within the Islamic scholarly tradition, particularly in the Malay World. Since 2023, FTIS has provided a platform for the discussion and appreciation of Islamic heritage works, including titles like Ihya' 'Ulumuddin by Imam Al-Ghazali and Al-Arba'in al-Nawawiyah by Imam al-Nawawi.
The upcoming FTIM 2026 will gather 23 local and international scholars, including prominent figures such as Sheikh Dr Ali Jum'ah, Prof Dr Sayyid Idris al-Fasi al-Fihri, and Selangor Mufti Datuk Setia Dr Haji Anhar Haji Opir. They will participate in over 42 scholarly sessions throughout the festival. Additional scholars, like Ustaz Dr Adi Hidayat and Ustaz Wadi Annuar, will also contribute to the event.
The festival will offer a range of programmes including Kuliah Subuh, Dalail al-Khairat recitations, and Talaqqi Kitab Al-Hikam sessions over five days. Other highlights include the Tausiah Perdana, a Qasidah Ceremony, and the Islamic Book Festival. Additionally, for the first time, the National Muzakarah Ulama Turath will convene, bringing together Islamic scholars from across the country to enhance intellectual cooperation and address contemporary challenges faced by Muslims.
