Kuala lumpur: Changes in today's lifestyle landscape require fathers to play a greater role in communication, emotional support, and their children's education. National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) Family Well-being Division director Rosmonaliza Abdul Ghani highlighted that a father's role extends beyond being a breadwinner to becoming an agent of change in fostering harmonious and resilient families. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Rosmonaliza emphasized the importance of effective communication within the family to ensure fathers remain integral in nurturing and raising their children. She noted that fathers are now seen as agents of change and pivotal figures in shaping strong family institutions. This was discussed in the KASIH Lensa Keluarga podcast titled Sehebat Kasih Bapa, featuring Pertubuhan Jejak Jalanan founder and chief activist Abbe Hae. Rosmonaliza mentioned that more men are increasingly open to seeking professional help and attending counselling sessions with their spo uses and children. LPPKN provides various support programmes, including counselling, therapy, and personality assessments, to assist fathers facing financial pressures, mental health issues, and other life challenges. She stressed the importance of offering a safe space for fathers to share their concerns, highlighting an increase in men attending family counselling sessions with their children. Abbe Hae shared insights from his work with the urban poor and street children, noting that many social problems arise from the absence of an active father figure within the family. He identified drug abuse among heads of households and poverty as factors contributing to family breakdowns and social issues. Abbe advocated for compassionate efforts to support fathers facing difficulties rather than punitive measures, suggesting that approaches grounded in religious values and family principles can aid individuals in reclaiming their roles as responsible heads of households. Rosmonaliza also underscored the importance of support from spouses and children in helping fathers cope with challenges and prevent them from suppressing their problems. She urged children to appreciate their father's sacrifices and encouraged fathers to spend quality time with their families, emphasizing the value of presence over material possessions.
