Kuala lumpur: The family of a Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) intern, who lost his life in an air conditioning gas explosion at HELP University in Bukit Damansara, claimed his body today to proceed with funeral arrangements. The incident, which occurred yesterday, has left the family and the academic community in mourning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the family arrived at the Forensic Department of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) at 2:45 pm and departed at 3:55 pm. Prof. Chang Yoong Choon, the Dean of UTAR's Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, was also present at 3:22 pm to offer support to the grieving family.
Chang, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed their appreciation for the media coverage but stated that they preferred to keep the funeral's location private. "The family does not authorise me to disclose the location of the funeral. So for the university, some of the management of the university together with some of his good friends, we will pay our last respects to the student at the funeral," he announced outside the HKL Forensic Department.
The tragic explosion occurred at 11:40 am the previous day, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to nine others, including four students. Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, identified the deceased as 24-year-old Soo Yu Juan, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student who was nearing the completion of his industrial training.
