Family Of Five Robbed, Jewellery Worth RM130,000 Stolen

Alor gajah: A family of five was robbed by a group of five men armed with machetes and wooden sticks who broke into their home in Kampung Air Resam, Durian Tunggal here last Saturday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Alor Gajah district police chief Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar stated that the incident happened around 9 pm and involved five family members aged between 23 and 73, including a woman with physical disabilities affecting her legs and hands. He explained that the robbery unfolded when a 50-year-old male victim was packing milk behind his house, and the robbers entered through the back door, which was left unlocked.

The victim's 45-year-old wife witnessed the break-in, screamed, and attempted to flee to the living room but was intercepted by the assailants. Ahmad detailed how the robbers tied the man's hands, covered his eyes, and demanded to know if the family possessed any jewellery, to which he initially denied having any.

Despite his response, the victim was struck on the shoulder and abdomen with a machete. The robbers proceeded to search a room at the back of the house, eventually bringing the couple into the living room. Several types of jewellery, including necklaces and earrings worn by the female victim, were seized by the assailants.

The robbery came to an abrupt end when a motorcyclist arrived to collect milk in front of the house, prompting the suspects to flee the scene. Ahmad reported that the family suffered losses estimated at about RM130,000, including eight sets of gold thali, 10 necklaces weighing approximately 185 grammes, bracelets, and a 500-gramme silver bar.
