Kuala lumpur: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has denied allegations that the governing body had failed to present audited financial reports since 2016, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading. In a statement today, FAM stressed that all audited financial reports had consistently been presented at its Annual Congress, including the Financial Report for the year ended Dec 31, 2025, which was tabled at the First FAM Extraordinary Congress 2026 on Thursday. According to BERNAMA News Agency, each financial report undergoes a thorough review by the Finance and Management Committee as well as the Executive Committee (Exco) before being presented for final approval at the Annual Congress. 'FAM's financial audits are also conducted by certified local auditors as well as international bodies, namely the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), as the association receives funding allocations from both organisations,' the statement read. FAM also explained that following approval by the congress, the financial reports would be submitted to the Sports Commissioner's Office (SCO) through the MyKBS system for further verification. On the issue of the presentation of annual budgets, FAM said that budgets for the 2020 to 2022 period were not tabled at congresses because there was no provision for this in the statutes at the time, although they were still reviewed and approved by the Exco and the Finance Committee. For the 2023 to 2025 period, FAM said amendments to the statutes had been made in line with FIFA's recommendation for budgets to be presented at congresses, but acknowledged shortcomings in the implementation of the presentations during those years. FAM stressed that it viewed the matter seriously and remained committed to strengthening its financial governance processes to ensure compliance with established guidelines. In the same statement, FAM also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, citing its achievement of a five-star rating from the Sports Commissioner for five consecutive years from 2018 to 2022. The association also highlighted its recognition at the Asian level through the AFC Dream Asia Awards 2019 in the Inspiration category (Bronze), as well as being recognised among the top three football associations in Asia in the grassroots development category at the 29th AFC Awards in Riyadh.
