Kuala lumpur: The house of Melaka Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Datuk Kalsom Noordin in Pantai Peringgit here was damaged after an uprooted tree crashed onto it early today. Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Public Relations officer Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid said the department received a distress call at 5.44 am and arrived at the scene six minutes later.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the tree had crushed the front section of the house roof. Firefighters carried out tree removal and clean-up operations, which were completed at 8.40 am today.
Meanwhile, Kalsom, when contacted, said heavy rain and strong winds that hit the area were believed to have caused the tree to fall, damaging the roof, house gate and three of her vehicles. She urged the relevant authorities, particularly the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB), to assess large roadside trees to prevent them from falling.
