Kuala lumpur: Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil took some time off his busy schedule to visit a former assistant medical officer, who suffered a stroke four years ago, at his residence in Taman Bukit Intan here today. Mohd Lazin Daud, 54, who is bedridden due to a brain haemorrhage following complications from high blood pressure, is fully reliant on his 48-year-old wife Zainabariah Mohamed, a nurse at Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zainabariah said that due to the complications, her husband is no longer able to manage himself, and needs to be fed milk via a special tube every three hours, adding that he would only respond through hand movement and blinking. She said that when she's at work, the responsibility of feeding and caring for Mohd Lazin falls on their second child.

"The monthly expenditure for milk alone is over RM1,000 a month but, Alhamdulillah, I can claim back the purchase of milk and necessities from the Public Service Department (JPA) because we are both civil servants. That's helps a little," she told Bernama after the visit by Fahmi. She said that Mohd Lazin, who is retired, also undergoes hospital follow-up treatments every six months.

Zainabariah described Fahmi's visit today as "extremely meaningful" for her family as they never expected a minister to drop by their house. "I am truly touched because I never expected a minister would come to our house. I feel proud and grateful that he took the time to visit us. He also reminded us to inform his officer should we need any assistance, whether it's for my husband, our children or myself. He also advised our children to study hard and to take care of themselves," said the mother of four.
