Seremban: Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has called on all parties to engage in a respectful and idea-focused campaign for the Negeri Sembilan State Election, following reports of vandalism against a Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate's billboards in the Rantau state constituency.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, PH candidate Dr Azizul Hakim Mahdi reported that several of his campaign billboards had been defaced. Social media posts have also circulated, appearing to show individuals committing these acts of vandalism. Fahmi emphasized that such acts are offenses and should be investigated by the authorities.

Fahmi made these comments while accompanying Nur Azman Mohamad, PH candidate for the Sikamat state seat, during a campaign walkabout at the Paroi Stadium Seremban City Council stalls. He stressed the importance of maintaining a mature election campaign, centered on a competition of ideas and facts rather than slander or actions that could escalate tensions.

"We encourage and remind all parties to campaign in a healthy manner and to base their campaigns on ideas and facts, not on slander or acts of sabotage," Fahmi reiterated.

Reflecting on the campaign's progression, Fahmi expressed satisfaction but anticipated increased intensity in the final week. "This is just the first week, so many may still be in second gear, not yet sixth gear," he noted. He mentioned the involvement of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who had campaigned at several locations, with plans for more leaders to join in the coming days.

The Election Commission has designated August 1 as polling day for the Negeri Sembilan state election, with early voting scheduled for July 28.
