Fahmi Offers Condolences on Passing of Veteran Actress Maria Menado

Kuala lumpur: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has expressed his condolences to the family of veteran actress Datuk Seri Maria Menado, also known as Maria Abdullah, who passed away at the age of 94. Maria was a celebrated film star during the 1950s and made significant contributions to the Malay film industry.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi honored the late actress through a Facebook post, highlighting her importance not only as an actress but also as a cherished figure in the history and memory of the country's arts industry. He remarked on the loss of such a prominent name in the Malay film industry, noting that Maria Menado's career spanned from the 1950s to the early 1960s.

Maria Menado was particularly renowned for her iconic performance in the 1957 film "Pontianak," which Fahmi credited with paving the way for the local horror genre. Her work in this film became a cultural phenomenon and left a lasting impact on the cinematic landscape.

Fahmi shared that many people grew up watching Maria's films and that her presence continues to resonate. He prayed for her contributions to be accepted as lasting charity and wished for her soul to be blessed and placed among the faithful.

Maria Menado passed away at 12.25 pm due to old age. She will be laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery following the Asar prayers today.
