Fahmi Joins Hands With Indian Community At Ponggal Festival

Lembah Pantai: Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil today attended the Lembah Pantai constituency’s Ponggal celebration, which saw the participation of 50 Indian families. Fahmi, the Communications Minister, arrived at 2.45 pm, accompanied by the ministry’s Deputy Secretary-General, Mano Verabathran. He then prepared the traditional Ponggal dish, cooking rice, milk, palm sugar, cashews, cardamom, raisins, and ghee in clay pots.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi stated that such celebrations enhance understanding of the history and culture of different communities while fostering unity in Malaysia’s diverse society. “It is crucial for me, as a community leader, to participate in the Ponggal Festival alongside the community as a show of support. I encourage Members of Parliament representing constituencies with a significant Indian community or groups within their areas to take this opportunity to strengthen relationships, promote unity, and deepen mutual understanding,” he told reporters.

The Ponggal celebration was organised by the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament’s office. Fahmi added that such programmes provide an opportunity for elected representatives to address more community issues and challenges while contributing to society’s development. Ponggal is a harvest festival celebrated by the Indian community worldwide, including Malaysia.
