Fahmi Fadzil Urges Respect in Social Media Content Creation

Kuala Lumpur:Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has called on content creators, influencers, and social media users to prioritize decorum, consideration, and humanity when producing content, particularly concerning the current situation involving Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi emphasized that while there is a public interest in the health status of the former prime minister, not all information needs to be converted into news or shared on social media platforms.

Fahmi stressed the importance of maintaining decorum, morals, and humanity in the digital age, urging everyone to allow Dr Mahathir and his family the necessary space and time to grieve following the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali. Dr Mahathir's son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, had previously requested that the family's privacy be respected during their mourning period.

Additionally, Fahmi cautioned social media users against spreading speculative posts, insensitive AI-generated content, or inappropriate comments. He advised against sharing or engaging with humiliating content or material wishing harm upon others and encouraged people to report such content to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) or the police.
