KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has extended his condolences to the family of Lim Foong Mei, an elderly woman who succumbed to injuries sustained in a snatch theft incident in Bangsar. Lim, 78, passed away today after being targeted by a motorcyclist on Jalan Limau Manis last month.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai, had previously visited Lim at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) following the attack. Fahmi was accompanied by Brickfields district police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood during the visit, as Lim was recovering from the incident.
The snatch theft occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. on October 7. CCTV footage captured the moment when a motorcyclist grabbed Lim’s handbag, causing her to fall onto the road. She remained motionless until passersby came to her assistance minutes later.
Lim was promptly transported to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, where she was placed under observation. Despite efforts to aid her recovery, Lim’s condition deteriorated, leading to her death, which has prompted an outpouring of sympathy from community leaders and residents alike.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about street crime and the safety of residents, particularly the elderly, in urban areas. Fahmi’s message underscores the need for continued vigilance and community support in addressing these issues.
