Fadillah Urges Sarawak Media To Spotlight Key Development Narratives

Kuching: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today called on media practitioners to consistently highlight ‘stories that matter’ as Sarawak advances towards achieving its Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 goals of becoming a high-income, green and technologically advanced economy. Speaking at a dinner held in conjunction with the Sarawak Media Conference (SMeC) 2025 and the state-level National Journalists Day (HAWANA) celebration here, he said it was pertinent for news coverage to reflect the state’s strategic direction and societal challenges.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah emphasized the importance of reporting on advancements in green and hydrogen technology, as well as stories of struggle and resilience amid the rising cost of living. He also highlighted the impact of policies and public services in Sarawak, urging media platforms to serve as avenues where the truth is heard, dignity is preserved, and hope is never extinguished.

During the dinner, Fadillah handed over the Sarawak Premier’s Special Appreciation Award 2025 to 10 media practitioners. The awards, presented across various categories including editor, journalist, newsreader, radio announcer (DJ), and photographer, recognized the recipients’ significant contributions in delivering accurate and constructive information.

Among the recipients were Sarawak Bernama bureau chief Hamdan Ismail, Sarawak Tribune editor-in-chief Aden Nagrace, and Cheng Lian Hock from Dayak Daily.
