Kuala lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister (PETRA), is recovering well after undergoing successful double coronary artery bypass surgery at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Wednesday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister stated that Fadillah's family expressed their deepest appreciation to the IJN medical team for its commitment, expertise, and professional care throughout his treatment. They also extended gratitude to ministries, mosques, houses of worship, government and private agencies, non-governmental organisations, family, friends, and all Malaysians who have offered prayers and support for his recovery.
Meanwhile, IJN in a separate statement reported that Fadillah continues to show positive progress following the successful coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedure on August 12. He was admitted to the institute on July 28 and underwent a coronary angiogram the following day. After a multidisciplinary team discussion, it was determined that coronary artery bypass surgery was the most appropriate course of treatment.
The double bypass surgery was performed on August 12 by IJN Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeons Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Ezani Md Taib and Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mond Azhan Yakub, together with Clinical Fellow Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Dr Ahmad Mahir Shamsuddin. The procedure was conducted under IJN's Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol, which supports early mobilisation, minimises complications, and promotes a safer and faster recovery.
Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Ezani Md Taib, IJN Group Chief Executive Officer, expressed satisfaction with the Deputy Prime Minister's progress. His treatment and recovery have proceeded according to plan, with his condition improving as expected. As part of his early mobilisation programme on August 13, the Deputy Prime Minister successfully completed a 2.8-kilometre cycling exercise under the supervision of IJN's clinical team. He was subsequently transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the general ward that afternoon, where he continues his post-CABG cardiac rehabilitation.
