Sandakan: A special assistance of RM300 for each student affected by the fire incident in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, has been directly credited to the school accounts to ensure their educational needs are met promptly. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that school authorities will soon distribute the aid to students, which is intended to help them prepare school supplies.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the affected students have been granted the flexibility to temporarily attend school without uniforms. Additionally, the Sabah State Education Department (JPN) and the Sandakan District Education Office (PPD) have been tasked with addressing further needs, including providing transportation assistance to school. Psychosocial support is also being offered for students, teachers, and educational staff.
Fadhlina emphasized that the Ministry of Education (MOE) is committed to providing the best possible assistance to all affected students, prioritizing their welfare and well-being. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited Sabah to meet with the victims of the fire tragedy, announcing that RM300 in aid will be distributed to 454 Malaysian students from 12 schools impacted by the incident, facilitated through the MOE.
The fire, which occurred on Sunday, devastated the water village, destroying around 1,000 houses and affecting an area of more than four hectares.
