KUALA LUMPUR: An ice factory worker has entered a guilty plea in the Magistrate’s Court for possessing child sexual abuse material and obscene videos, following an incident that took place last week.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Affandi Mohd Azi, 33, committed the offenses at a residence in Kampung Batangan, Marang, at 8:50 p.m. on December 23. He was charged under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. This section carries a penalty of a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.
In addition to the charges under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act, the accused faced charges under Section 292 of the Penal Code. This section stipulates a maximum three-year jail sentence or a fine, or both, for those found guilty.
During the court proceedings, Magistrate Zur Azureen Zainalkefli granted Muhammad Affandi bail set at RM8,000 in one surety. The sentencing has been scheduled for January 15. The case has drawn attention due to the serious nature of the charges and the implications of child protection laws.
