Tok bali: Malaysia and Thailand will deploy existing bilateral mechanisms to probe allegations of bomb-making activities involving fertiliser elements from Malaysia, announced Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian and Thai police will conduct their respective investigations through established channels, such as government-to-government engagement, the Border Working Group, and Police-to-Police cooperation.

Saifuddin emphasized the importance of addressing border-related issues through these mechanisms to prevent escalating tensions or mutual suspicion between the two nations. He highlighted the continuous operation of P-to-P cooperation, which allows enforcement authorities from both countries to communicate and discuss security-related matters at any time.

The Border Working Group serves as an additional platform for Malaysia and Thailand to discuss border issues. On a separate note, Saifuddin mentioned that the newly completed Region Three Marine Police Base is set to begin operations in November. The base, staffed by 111 officers and personnel, aims to bolster enforcement and maritime security along the East Coast.

The RM80.01 million project, managed by PBLT Sdn Bhd, includes various facilities such as an administration building, boathouse, mechanical workshop, jetty, guardhouse, ammunition store, and personnel quarters. Saifuddin noted that the base would enhance efforts against threats in East Coast waters, including drug and firearm smuggling, illegal immigrant landings, and incursions by fishermen, ultimately safeguarding the country's maritime sovereignty.

Also in attendance were Bukit Aman Department of Internal Security and Public Order director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri and Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat.
